A Fun-Packed Summer at Garden Square’s Kids’ Club!

8th September 2016
It’s not easy to keep the kids entertained over the summer holidays. At Garden Square Shopping Centre, we came up with a fun, free way to amuse your little monsters throughout August: our very own Kids’ Club!
The Kids’ Club
Dedicated to children aged between 3 and 15 years, the Garden Square Shopping Centre Kids’ Club was the perfect way to keep the kids entertained over the summer holiday.
With supervised creative events held at the shopping centre every Wednesday, it gave little ones the chance to express themselves and make new friends. All Kids’ Club members received a free goodie bag, and we laid on plenty of exclusive offers and competitions just for them.
Creativity for Life
Packed with fun activities, the Garden Square Shopping Centre Kids’ Club was a great way to support children’s development during the summer holiday. Recent research by Born Creative and arts education charity Creative, Culture and Education has shown that children who access creative learning in early education develop the skills they need for the workplace and their community, meaning they are more likely to succeed in adult life.
Born Creative recommends that local institutions are included in children’s creative development to build community cohesion – and that’s exactly what our Kids’ Club did! With an emphasis on self-expression and learning, our free events were accessible for all Letchworth children.
“It’s a great opportunity for children – accompanied by their parents – to take part in creative, community focused activities. Not only will our events be fun and inclusive, but they’ll also encourage children’s artistic abilities, social skills and develop their cognitive capabilities.”Jack Philbin, Garden Square’s Centre Manager
A Summer of Fun Events
Our Kids’ Club launched on Saturday 16th July with the first fun, free event of the summer. We installed a large three-sided totem pole at the shopping centre, and invited children to colour it in and create a unique piece of artwork.
Throughout August, Garden Square Shopping Centre played host to another four Kids’ Club events. Hundreds of little ones – whether they were Kids’ Club members or not – took part.
Potter with Beatrix & Friends
We kicked things off with a special themed event, Potter with Beatrix & Friends. Children could paint their very own Peter Rabbit money box and hear a tale or two from our special giant rabbit friends, the Hop-a-lots!
Reach New Heights
On Wednesday 10th August it was time to Reach New Heights with a specially designed 18ft climbing wall and a team of trained instructors.

Dungeons & Dragons
Kids could make their own swords and shields and become a hero for the day at our Dungeons & Dragons Event. They also got the chance to meet friendly dragon Epico and his swashbuckling companion Sir Aurelious Jones, the Pirate Knight!

Conquer the Cave
At our final Kids’ Club activity of the summer, the brave and adventurous attempted to Conquer the Cave. Our expert Cave Crew were at hand with hard hats, teaching kids how to navigate a cave in a safe and fun environment.
A Huge Success
Our Kids’ Club really drew in the crowds and provoked some great feedback on Facebook and Twitter.
